Today, Thursday, after class I immediately have to report to work at one. Meaning I have to get across town in ten minutes. Which is possible but sometimes hard when traffic seems to be against me. I work at Peace at Hand Massage Therapy, we just relocated by the Tower Point HEB. Getting to my job from Bryan is a solid fifteen minute drive (unless, of course, traffic) but sometimes I get here in eight minutes. I drive pretty upbeat, and fast-passed (and way over the speed limit). Especially because of Merl, my Mini Cooper. I love Merl, mainly because I can squeeze in between people on highways. I definitely drive like a "Houstonian" when I need to get somewhere on time. All of my friends are actually scared of my driving; covering their eyes and flinch when I turn, speed up, or switch lanes. I sometimes feel bad because personally, I do not trust anyone else's driving, but I have a clear record, never been in any kind of accident, not even scratched or dented Merl. I am not sure how I fell in love with Mini Coopers, but I loved them since I was about thirteen. My car is probably the only possession of mine I actually care about. I not a materialistic person but I'll shamelessly admit, I wash Merl at least twice a week. Ever since I have had Merl (January of this year) when I see other Mini's I throw a peace sign and they usually wave or give one back. I have seen jeeps wave so I thought I could start a Mini gang too. From my experiences most men who drive Mini's will signal back at me and smile, but most of the women do not bother looking at me. Which is fine, everyone is trying to get somewhere but it is a observation I have made. Surprisingly, I made friends with this girl studying at A&M named Kaila. She too has a Mini, I feel like we have a special friendship because of it. She drives a 2002 manual Mini named, Stella. Merl is a 2014 Sport Mini Cooper, with the option of automatic and manual. My license plate even says "Merl" with a LGBT pride flag plate holder, I am really proud of being apart of the LGBT+ community so I feel the need to support. My job is not as stressful or as difficult as it could be, I do wish I worked more hours but after class every day I go in till at least six in the evening. My main duties are folding and doing laundry, checking clients out after their service, and basic maintenance. I do enjoy my job but I wish I did not get treated like a kid. For instance, I feel looked down on because of my anxiety, calling people on the phone is not something I want to do, but still do. I usually stutter, mumble, or speak too quickly I am aware of my actions, yet some days I still hide away in the bathroom after being on the phone for so long with clients. I hope that I one day I can overcome my fear of talking to people over the phone.
Mckenzie, I love Merl! I love how you love your car so much! And for the record you're not a horrible driver, I feel pretty safe when I ride in your car!
ReplyDeleteGirl I always see you driving so fast in your car haha. I remember wanting a mini cooper so bad but I had to go with my Jeep. The Jeep wave is a serious thing and I get frustrated when people don't wave back.
ReplyDeletewhen I read this i just wanted to die laughing
ReplyDeleteMaybe I need to make a sign for the mazda wave and see if i get one back.
ReplyDeleteYou almost hit me leaving class a while back. Merl has a little power
ReplyDeleteI seen you driving once before and yes it is very fast pace. I don't see how you get there in eight minutes.
