Spring Semester 2018

Spring Semester 2018 Blinn College This semester I went in thinking I would be struggling to pass and keep up with my work, but turns out it was the opposite. During the semester I expected myself to fall behind and not do so well, but I actually ended up succeeding in all my courses I signed up for. I signed up for four courses this semester: speech, reading, learning framework, and math. I kept up with all of them, passing and making good grades on tests and quizzes. I actually found them too easy, at some points I would ask myself how I got in such easy courses. Which is fine, I have learned from each course but I still feel as if I wasted my time in these classes. More specifically, learning framework, this class was completely unnecessary. The work was about how I would achieve in college and be a “good student” but realistically I’ve been prepared this whole time. I feel that I am ready for college material, college level teaching, and harder more challenging work. In high ...

Iron & Wine

Iron & Wine: Beast Epic In this review over Beast Epic by Philip Cosores, he starts by stating, “Sam Beam brings Iron & Wine full circle on his sixth album, using the warm acoustic instrumentation of his early work and some of the most moving singing if his career”. Cosores is showing favor toward this album, he makes it clear that Iron & Wine have changed their style of music but Cosores seemed to really appreciate his new form of art through his newest album. For example, Cosores explains, “ “Such Great Heights” helped broaden a genre where breathy acoustic folk and pulsing radio-ready synth pop could be flip sides of the same coin.” Meaning, Cosores really compared his older albums to his newer- Beast Epic -, but explains how both are warm, acoustic, and moving. In the next paragraph he even mentions, “... but that record’s glitchy electronic moments, Motown horn sections, and Jame Taylor- breeziness all worked to divorce Beam from the humble songwriting he’d became ...

merl

Today, Thursday, after class I immediately have to report to work at one. Meaning I have to get across town in ten minutes. Which is possible but sometimes hard when traffic seems to be against me. I work at Peace at Hand Massage Therapy, we just relocated by the Tower Point HEB. Getting to my job from Bryan is a solid fifteen minute drive (unless, of course, traffic) but sometimes I get here in eight minutes. I drive pretty upbeat, and fast-passed (and way over the speed limit). Especially because of Merl, my Mini Cooper. I love Merl, mainly because I can squeeze in between people on highways. I definitely drive like a "Houstonian" when I need to get somewhere on time. All of my friends are actually scared of my driving; covering their eyes and flinch when I turn, speed up, or switch lanes. I sometimes feel bad because personally, I do not trust anyone else's driving, but I have a clear record, never been in any kind of accident, not even scratched ...

Amanda Petrusich

In Amanda's article talking about spotify's untrustworthy way of listening to music, rather than tradition. Amanda understanding the uses of spotify and all its power and how easily accessible it has become. Amanda's main point/ thesis is why spotify is lofty and how traditional (record player) can be more of a "real" or trustworthy source cause it is right there. The primary argument Amanda makes is that spotify is going public in stocks and that spotify is a good base for the artist who want to get to listen for free. In these sentences she claims why she enjoys collecting records, how Spotify is going public, and how spotify is universal by helping artist and listener. In this sentence it shows her passion for collecting records and she feels like she is not restricted because of it, "because I still relish the experience of choosing and purchasing albums, I've accrued enough that I never feel as if my listening options are in any way circ...

My Home

Image
I was born in The Woodlands, Texas I lived there till 3rd grade. I still consider it my home, my best memories happened there. I participated in soccer, ballet, and tae-kwon-do for at least eight years. Ballet was a big part of my life until I broke my toe, then I had to give it up. Which is okey because after I started riding my horses more. When I was growing up we owned two houses, well one a house and a ranch in Washington, Texas. This is where I learned how to horseback ride and shoot at snakes. We moved to our ranch my mom would still take my to dance class, an hour away, back to The Woodlands. I remember my dad always washing our cars in the driveway, I used to help him all the time, I enjoyed spending time with my dad back then. We would wash my dads car first, then my moms, and my sisters, I do not know why I enjoyed this but our summers where the same thing everyday. Sitting at our pool with a capri-sun and my jukebox, summers were my favorite....

Exam #2

Image
Exam #2 was a bit easier than the first exam. I studied twice as hard than I did for the first, I was eager to make a better grade even though I still succeeded the first time. I would hope that all my studying showed. I anticipate on being successful in this class. I occasionally forget my homework, but even then I still complete it. Exam #2 was not as difficult or challenging as I thought, thankfully. My expectations were to achieve a better test score and be more detailed on the vocabulary so that I get a chance to have a right answer. I even attempting all the vocabulary parts of speech for bonus. What did not meet my expectations was how short it was, giving me less of a chance to gain more points. Rather, the amount of questions provided carrying most of my grade. I had to trust myself on my answers I wrote, I had to make sure nothing was left out or not put properly. Only hoping that I did not miss anything so that I can be the best I can. I will approach the upcoming exams...
