Spring Semester 2018
Spring Semester 2018 Blinn College
This semester I went in thinking I would be struggling to pass and keep up with my work, but turns out it was the opposite. During the semester I expected myself to fall behind and not do so well, but I actually ended up succeeding in all my courses I signed up for. I signed up for four courses this semester: speech, reading, learning framework, and math. I kept up with all of them, passing and making good grades on tests and quizzes. I actually found them too easy, at some points I would ask myself how I got in such easy courses. Which is fine, I have learned from each course but I still feel as if I wasted my time in these classes.
More specifically, learning framework, this class was completely unnecessary. The work was about how I would achieve in college and be a “good student” but realistically I’ve been prepared this whole time. I feel that I am ready for college material, college level teaching, and harder more challenging work. In high school at A&M Consolidated I went to school full time, and went to night school everyday after I left Consol. I took eight extra classes to finish high school a year early. I am determined to go through college just as fast as I can so that I can start my life.
Some Skills I did develop this semester is time management and critical thinking. I am now able to schedule out when I will do my homework so that it gets done on time and with plenty of time to do it. In Mr.Still’s class I learned how to break down any paragraph and find what someone is trying to communicate in a small fragment sentence. This skill really helped me. I am dyslexic, and have some common comprehension issues, I never complained about these things. I never told my professors or teachers, I wanted a challenge. To motivate myself as at some points reading and understanding a text can be frustrating I found these tools on how to break down a paragraph helped me comprehend and understand at a deeper level. I hope these two skills will help me better improve for my future in college and in life.
The class I did poorly in was speech but I am okay with that. Speech is just a basic course that has to get out of the way. In my believe, the reason I did poorly or not as well as my other courses was because I have anxiety. I hate excuses, I do, my anxiety is not an excuse. No one knows about my anxiety because I do not want to feel like I have a special privilege or burden. Talking in front of people was very restricting to me, I dislike it, but I overcame it. I want to be treated like the rest of my classmates. Besides there is not much she could do to help me anyway. Thankfully I am passing, but this course was a honest struggle of mine. My math course was also a blow, it was so easy. It was eighth grade math I swear.
Overall, this semester I feel like I most benefited from Mr.Still’s reading class and my speech class with Professor Saltsman. I was able to learn good techniques from Mr.Still’s class and I overcame a lot fears of public speaking in my speech class.
Time management played a big role in college and life.
