Amanda Petrusich
In Amanda's article talking about spotify's untrustworthy way of listening to music, rather than tradition. Amanda understanding the uses of spotify and all its power and how easily accessible it has become. Amanda's main point/ thesis is why spotify is lofty and how traditional (record player) can be more of a "real" or trustworthy source cause it is right there. The primary argument Amanda makes is that spotify is going public in stocks and that spotify is a good base for the artist who want to get to listen for free. In these sentences she claims why she enjoys collecting records, how Spotify is going public, and how spotify is universal by helping artist and listener. In this sentence it shows her passion for collecting records and she feels like she is not restricted because of it, "because I still relish the experience of choosing and purchasing albums, I've accrued enough that I never feel as if my listening options are in any way circumscribed". Next, this sentence is telling when Spotify is going public "on Tuesday, Spotify will begin selling shares on the New York Stock Exchange". Finally, this sentence talks about the positive output of Spotify, which is to benefit artist and music fans: "'[M]usic is universal and that streaming is a more robust and seamless access model that benefits both artists and music fans'". With all this evidence, it is clear what Amanda is trying to point out, why she prefers records, the business going public and the positive reason for Spotify, for artists and listeners.
The first piece of music I owned was probably a old country mix tape my mom had made me for my 6th birthday. The mix tape was burned on a disc, with writing on the top, "kenzie's". Some artist found my the disc where: Merle Haggard, Dean Martin, Toby Keith, George Strait, and George Jones. My first major musical purchase had to be when I was younger, and I loved The Beach Boys. I bought their CD at a local store and listen to it in my room on my Hello Kitty CD player. I loved having CD's it was a slower paced time, no one was in a hurry to change the song or only select few songs to listen to, rather having to listen to the whole album. Several years ago I had found my mom's old record player and took it from her and started using it more. I can admit, I use records more than I do Spotify, currently. Spotify is a great use when I am driving because I can select what I would like to listen to, right then, overall being less complicated. When I am not in a car I prefer listening on a record player. I enjoy the raw sounding of a record player, it is not auto tuned or overdone. Records contain a history if they are older albums, grabbing old albums is interesting, not knowing the artist or any song on the alum, it is fun to have something with a history and use/play it again.
The oldies music is the best. Especially Merle Haggard.
